I get asked so many times why should people pay more for a bar of soap from a handmade shop rather than buying soap from a large company at a price much lower. Now I understand the need to save money and keep the budget down but at what cost? Your skin is the largest organ in your body. Nearly all of what you put on your skin gets absorbed into your body. Do yourself a favor and read label ingredients on your current "soap". I've put that word in quotations as most of what you buy on the store shelves is NOT soap. Check your favorite bar or browse the aisle in your store. Most are called "beauty bars", "body bars," etc, not soap as they legally cannot be called soap according to FDA guidelines. These large companies have removed the glycerin naturally produced in the soap making process, and put in chemicals to enhance lathering and cleaning. These are no longer "soap" , they are detergents! You are now using detergent to wash your face and body.
Why do companies do this? Well glycerin is a profitable ingredient for the manufacturer. They remove it from the soap and in turn sell it or use it in their own lotion products. You will need this lotion as your skin is so parched from using their "soap". Double profit! The chemicals they add to their products are cheap.
Another side to all that so called "soap" is the chemicals they contain. Antibacterial soap is the worst as it contains a chemical called Triclosan. Triclosan is known to cause cancer. Also parabens, another nasty ingredient. Parabens have been known to cause cancer also. Phthalates is another goody in store bought soaps. Phthalates are known to cause reproduction issues in both humans and animals.
Do you really want to place your health and the health of your family in jeopardy to save some money? The big manufacturers are hoping you do. !
